미국, 발전소의 기후 오염 배출 제한 폐지

미국은 환경보호청(EPA)이 발전소 탄소 배출 기준을 폐지했다고 발표했다.

미국 환경보호청(EPA)은 석탄 및 가스 발전소에 적용하던 2024년 탄소 오염 기준을 폐지한다고 밝혔다. 이로 인해 대부분의 발전소에 대한 탄소 배출 제한이 없어지게 된다. 기존 기준은 석탄 발전소와 신규 가스 발전소에 탄소 배출량의 90%를 포집하거나 2039년까지 폐쇄할 것을 요구하고 있었다.

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced the repeal of carbon pollution standards for coal and gas power plants effective from 2024. This decision removes most restrictions on carbon emissions from power plants. Previously, the standards required existing coal plants and new gas plants to capture 90% of carbon emissions or shut down by 2039.
