Stanford research reveals independent developmental paths for brain regions.
A study led by Stanford Medicine finds that the human brain develops from different precursor cells for the forebrain/midbrain and hindbrain, challenging the traditional model that the whole brain develops from a single precursor cell. In embryos of mice, precursor cells expressing Otx2 lead to the forebrain/midbrain, while those expressing Gbx2 contribute to hindbrain development. This could significantly impact our understanding of brain development.
