Richard Hipp explains that SQLite was developed out of the need to bypass unreliable Informix servers and directly access disk data. It has since become an embedded SQL engine used in over 1 trillion databases. The key to its high reliability lies in the approach of verifying every branch at the machine level bidirectionally.
