A malicious SIM card can execute attacker code inside IoT device modems.
Research by the University of Birmingham and security firm Fuzzware revealed that a malicious SIM card can order IoT device modems to run commands chosen by an attacker. Testing 26 phones and cellular modules showed this vulnerability, which could allow full takeover of devices like electric vehicle chargers, industrial routers, and car telematics units.
