Cloudflare recently introduced a prototype called Cache Transcoding. This technology compresses uncompressed text content like HTML, JSON, CSS, and JavaScript using Zstandard before storing it on disk. The hyperscaler estimates that this approach could yield petabytes of additional effective cache capacity, although broader testing is still required.
