미국에서 SUV와 픽업트럭의 비중이 높아짐에 따라 보행자 사망 감소세가 2009년 이후 반전되었다. 이로 인해 보행자 사망자는 매년 약 75% 증가하고 있으며, 차량의 대형화가 주요 원인으로 지적되고 있다. 만약 차량 크기가 지난 25년간 비슷했다면, 매년 약 200~400명의 사망이 예방되었을 것이라는 분석도 있다.

In the U.S., the increasing prevalence of SUVs and pickup trucks has reversed the trend of declining pedestrian deaths since around 2009. Consequently, pedestrian fatalities have risen by approximately 75% annually, with vehicle size being identified as a significant factor. If vehicle sizes had remained consistent over the past 25 years, estimates suggest around 200 to 400 lives could have been saved each year.
